This Throwback is from Eid '14 and it's is my very own design, and to some degree my own work! Yes, I actually sewed some of this and believe me a lot of sweat (glisten), tears (prone to temper tantrums), and blood went into it. And NOBODY makes me bleed my own blood, especially not my imagination.
I usually favor Indian designers when it comes to ethnic wear, but after hearing how much everyone loves Pakistani outfits, I wanted to venture out of my comfort zone. And I was fairly bored of the long, anarkalis - although I think it's an incredibly flattering silhouette. When I saw the shorter kurtas paired with pants from Pakistani designers, I was hooked. I tried desperately to find a trusted source to get an outfit but it turned into mission impossible.
I made my way over to Devon ("little Pakistan", if you will) but the boutiques all had the long dresses; I browsed instagram and attempted to contact a plethora of designers, all to no avail. I was short on time and big on ideas, I decided to take matters into my own hands and went to recruit my mother, who was more than hesitant to take on my project because I am rather...ahem...particular about what I wear. Luckily, after some cajoling, a little whining, and a lot of sighing, she took pity and we got to designing my outfit.
The material is an old sari that I was allowed to cut up and put together with a lot of instructions - and the ribbon? I picked it up from Vogue fabric in Evanston. It was a 7-day project and I think it was worth it - although, I think I'll stick to shopping online at Pernia's Popup Shop for Indian outfits and wait patiently until a Pakistani designer decides to create an online shopping experience I can trust!

Great post Madah :) I sew once in awhile, so I can really appreciate the time you put into making this outfit. It's beautiful! The best part is that no one else has the exact same suit ;)
