As an American of Pakistani descent, Indian roots, Afghan heritage, and Persian ancestry I have begun a small endeavour to trace my family. It's definitely difficult with word-of-mouth being my main source, and that too through second and third generations - I have had lots of false leads and dead-ends...and until I physically return to the places, I don't think I'll learn more about my people.
In the mean time, I have aspects, traditions, and small trinkets that make up their identities.
I can fuse my cultural and ethnic wardrobe to reflect the melting pot of my identity.
This velvet vest is hand embroidered and full of mirror work. Many of the men in my family have worn them, and this one is my husband's - I love how it's big enough to create a boxy silhouette on me. I kept the rest of my outfit very basic, oversized white button down, jeans, and "nude" kitten heels.

Although this look was very easy, I find creating fusion looks to be pretty tricky. I plan on expanding my ethnic jewelry collection and in an attempt to support corporate cultural appropriation, I will be staying away from high street brands.
