I know it's a little for a Mother's Day post but if I am nothing else, I am fashionable...and besides, aren't there those that proclaim every day as Mother's Day...and besides, if you pronounce my name a certain way, isn't it really and truly my day and so shall it be commemorated and thusly blogged about at my whim?
I was panicking about my outfit until the last minute, but my husband saved the day and we made a quick trip to the mall where I found this appropriately adorable dress from French Connection which went perfectly with my pink, fuzzy coat from Alythea. My ZARA heels and clutch finished the look. Hair and Makeup in 10 minutes - new record.
Having been married to an Englishman (amongst countless other self-discoveries) means that I have a) realized how incredibly lucky I am to (finally) live in the same vicinity as my parents...and I can't stress how shocking that statement would have been to my 17-year -old-self; and b) given me a taste for tiny sandwiches, scones with Devonshire cream, and tea as black as my soul (JK my soul isn't black, only my heart is. JK). I'm sure my hailing from a Pakistani family comes into play here as well. With the tea, not the black heart/soul joke.
I digress, I booked a special Afternoon Tea at the Palm Court of the Drake Hotel after combing through lists and lists of options from brunches to lunches to spa days. The Palm Court seemed serendipitous. And my sister treated our mom and myself to one of the best Mothers' Day I've had.
The Afternoon Tea was wonderful and I wholeheartedly recommend it. Carnations for us before we were seated; in addition to fun activities like face painting for the little ones, there was plenty of complimentary pampering for the mamas: I got a manicure, skin care products, and a Day Spa Card; the food was delectable and the service was lovely.
There is a vegetarian option that also allows seafood - although I can't get over how delicious the cucumber sandwiches were - and peanut butter sandwiches on the Princess and Prince menu, which my daughter loved!
It was pretty perfect. If you're in Chicago, the Palm Court is definitely an option for a relaxing break from shopping on Michigan Ave with the family.
I think one of the best things about growing up and becoming a mother is being able to relate to your own mother in ways that we may take for granted - I now know why my mother has been my harshest critic but also my loudest cheerleader.
I'm no longer a working mom, but my mom has been one for EVER, and so when I get a chance to kick back and just chit-chat...I take it.
And of course, behind most happy, relaxed mommies are daddies who stayed home to watch the baby.
So, thanks Dad! Your day is coming up. '-)
I hope you had a stupendous Mothers' Day and your every moment with your loved ones is full of joy and your hopes and wishes fulfilled.
